About North-Eastern Federal University:
North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk (NEFU) is one of the ten Russian federal universities. Recent reforms in the Russian Federation have created a new network of federal universities. This trend towards integration and modernization in higher university education is typical of many countries. As international experience shows, additional financial support from government promotes the high quality of education and higher performance in international rankings. North-Eastern Federal University is to become a strategic center for the formation of a common cultural, scientific and educational space, based on the values of indigenous culture of the peoples of the northeast of Russia, providing quality personal education in a multiethnic environment. NEFU development program towards the year 2020, was approved by former Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on October 7, 2010.
The following seven priority areas were identified in the Program:
– the new quality of the university;
– efficient environmental management and environmental security;
– efficient use of mineral resources;
– the use of science-based technologies and production in the North;
– the quality of life in the North;
– the preservation and development of languages and cultures;
– the analytical and personnel support for innovative social and economic development of the northeastern part of the Russian Federation.
The Institute of Medicine at M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University (founded in 1957) may be called as one of the oldest higher medicine institutes in the North-East of Russia. The Institute of Medicine is known both in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and outside of it, as a real source of practical and scientific and pedagogic personnel training.
For the last 20 years the faculty of postgraduate training of doctors of Medical institute became a peculiar training center for experts of health care. Annually more than 1200 people take part in different courses and seminars.
The courses teachers are the qualified specialists of Medical institute, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Territorial fund of obligatory medical insurance of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Programs of courses, their contents are according to qualification requirements to workers of the health care, approved by Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Integrated operational room’s capabilities
The system allows to conduct the learning process online – directly from the operating room and to create educational films, videos, presentations and programs based on the surgical interventions.
3D anatomical atlas
The Department of Anatomy developed an atlas “Topographic anatomy of the head and methods of surgical intervention in osteoplastic craniotomy in the 3D model”. The access to the individual modules allows us to study specific areas of the body, occupational functioning, or medical conditions, and sets of modules completely cover the whole body.
Telemedicine provides quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students, rapid exchange of medical information in health care system, widespread development of medical prevention, examination of newborns and population and also provide a high-tech consultative and diagnostic medical care regardless of the location of the patient. Telemedicine gradually evolved from technology to solve some problems into the method claimed in practical medicine for mass use. The following concepts are closely connected with the telemedicine, e.g., such as “computer and multimedia equipment”, ‘software”, ‘network’, ‘internet”, ‘teleconsultation” and “distance learning”.
International cooperation is one of the main aspects of the North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk.
NEFU collaborates with universities, colleges, research centers worldwide. The unique geopolitical position of the University determines our priorities for cooperation, which primarily includes countries of the Asia-Pacific and the Arctic regions. NEFU have established long-standing cooperation with universities of the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, China, USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland. Also our university also works closely with universities in the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Switzerland, CIS, etc.
