Attraction places

A memorial complex commemorating the battle of Stalingrad, dominated by an immense allegorical sculpture The Motherland Calls, was erected on the Mamayev Kurgan, the hill that saw some of the most intense fighting during the battle. At 85 metres it is almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York.

The Panorama Museum sited on the Volga contains artifacts from World War II. These include a panoramic painting of the battlefield from the location of the monument on Mamayev Kurgan. A rifle of the famous sniper Vasily Zaytsev is also on display.

The Central Station. It’s not just a place to catch a train; it is in fact one of the most gorgeous railway stations in the country, which is significant when you consider how immense of a country Russia is. Back in 1997, the station was declared an architectural landmark of this region. In early 1950s, during the construction of the station, architects really did their best, decorating the building with various paintings. As soon as you’re there, you’ll feel like a museum visitor.

Pavlov’s House. At first glance, it seems like an ordinary residential building. However, you have to know that during World War II, it became the symbol of the courage and virility of Russian soldiers, as from this particular building they managed to hold off the Germans for 60 days. The first thing that catches your eye when looking at Pavlov’s House is a tremendous memorial wall, reminding you that the war was real and of the hard-won victory of the Soviet soldiers.

Lake Elton. Lake Elton is one of the most beautiful and curious natural objects of the Volgograd region. People here say that it’s the pearl of the Volga steppe – the largest salt lake in Europe. It is hard to find a place that might compare with Elton in terms of its beauty and the diversity of its landscapes. The lake is situated on the territory of Eltonsky Natural Park, a place that surprises tourists and visitors with its beautiful sights. Such a trip might take the whole day, but the time spent here will seem like a brief moment of pleasure.
